Illumined is a Catholic OCIA formation app and website that helps students and instructors participate in lessons, assignments, discussion, prayer, and class communication. This policy explains what information Illumined collects and how it is used.

Information We Collect

Illumined may collect and store the following information when you create an account or use the app:

• Account information, such as your email address, username, display name, and class ID.
• Class participation data, such as lesson progress, quiz completion, assignment completion, discussion posts, replies, achievements, and memorized prayers.
• User-submitted content, such as prayer requests, classroom chat messages, discussion responses, and assignment responses.
• Notification information, such as a device push notification token if you choose to enable notifications in the mobile app.
• Basic technical information handled by Firebase services to keep the app secure, authenticated, and functioning.

How We Use Information

We use this information to:

• Create and manage student, instructor, and class accounts.
• Show lesson progress, assignments, announcements, discussions, and prayer requests.
• Allow instructors to view student progress and class readiness.
• Send class-related notifications when notifications are enabled.
• Maintain the security and reliability of the app.

Sharing of Information

Illumined does not sell personal information. Student activity and submitted content may be visible to instructors or class members when that visibility is part of the app feature, such as classroom discussion, chat, prayer requests, assignments, and progress tracking.

Third-Party Services

Illumined uses Firebase services, including Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Firebase Cloud Messaging. These services help provide account sign-in, cloud storage, app data synchronization, backend functions, and push notifications.

Prayer Requests and Discussion Content

Prayer requests, chat messages, discussion posts, replies, and assignment responses are user-submitted content. Please do not submit sensitive personal information that you do not want shared with your class or instructor.

Data Retention

Illumined keeps account and class participation data as needed to provide the app’s formation features. Some content may be removed automatically, such as prayer requests that expire after their active period. Instructors or administrators may also manage certain class content.

Children

Illumined is intended for parish faith formation use. If a parish uses Illumined with minors, the parish or instructor is responsible for obtaining any required parent or guardian permission.

Your Choices

You may choose whether to enable push notifications. You may also sign out of the app at any time. For questions about your account or class data, contact your instructor or parish app administrator.

Changes to This Policy

This privacy policy may be updated as Illumined changes. Any updates will be posted on this page.
